Tuesday 31st August 2004 Elvington Garden

Terry Preston caught this Pale Shoulder in his garden trap at Elvington on 27th/28th August. It is a rare migrant with possibly less than 15 previous records in the UK? He also caught an example of the Mocha on the same evening, a very good Kent record in itself.

Tuesday 17th August 2004 Garden Sholden Deal Kent

Lynn Hirst's has contacted us with news of the capture of a specimen of Godonella aestimaria possibly a first for Britain! (Not Confirmed) Gadget and I went over to Sholden to get some pictures which appear to be fairly conclusive. Why does this moth need to be killed to satisfy the "powers that be" in order for it to be accepted as 1st? Surely the technology exists to establish DNA proof without the need to pin the specimen? Non lethal id techniques must be the way forward. (Dylan)

Tuesday 17th August 2004 Pegwell Bay to Port entrance Ramsgate

As I cycled home from Pegwell Bay I saw 2 Hummingbird Hawk-moths. One in Pegwell Village by the Sir Stanley Grey and another along the undercliff by the Port entrance, that perched on the chalk cliff allowing me the opportunity to get a pix! (Dylan)

Wednesday 4th August 2004 River Dover

The very 1st night of moth trapping for Graham Crick down in his back garden at River Dover when I left to come home about 00-30hrs the moths had started to come in, willow Beauty, Magpie, Large Yellow Underwing, Mother of Pearle, Riband Wave, Least Carpet, Single-dotted wave, Common Rustic, Light Emerald, Blood-Vein, Swallow-tailed moth, Common Footman, and  Poplar Hawkmoth, we look forward to many more nights mothing. Sunday 1st August 2004 Garden Dumpton Thanet

Doing the jobs around the garden I came across this Pale Prominent on the Buddleia bush it did not move when I disturbed the bush so a good opportunity to photograph this wonderful moth had to be  taken. (Gadget)
