Ash, nr Sandwich
Today I found several small colonies of the Birds Nest fungus
( Crucibulum laeve) in my garden, growing in the compost
in a tub of potatoes. These are tiny, each nest is only about 8 mm across,
the "eggs" only about 2mm at the largest. Not uncommon, but not seen here in
every year (Norman McCanch)

September 2011 Grover Ferry NNR
Mark Chidwick and I
attended a bat survey session at Grove Ferry this evening, organised by
Becky and/Steve from Natural England. We had plenty of opportunities to play
with ultrasound detectors ,and recorded three species of Pipistrelle,
Common, Soprano and Nathusius'. The latter
a very recent colonist from the continent. We also heard one fast flying
Noctule bat heading over the reed beds. An excellent
session, we are both filled with enthusiasm to do more! (Norman McCanch)
Thursday 15th September 201 Grove Ferry NNR
Arriving at Grove Ferry at 06-15hrs with a heavy mist
laying over the marsh and surrounding fields thought-out the Valley and no
wind what so ever, I noted the ghostly silo-lets of the Cattle out on
the marsh field, Spiders webs were laced with droplets of water and
the Bulrushes or heads stood tall not moving like soldiers with light
dew on them, as the day awakened and the sun began to dry the valley out and
a few Migrant Hawkers were seen laying on the reeds drying
themselves before taking to the sky's, (Gadget)
