August 2009 Report has been Archived

Monday 21st September 2009   Pegwell Bay

I saw 4 Clouded Yellows today - all heading north - 3 on the Country Park and 1 in Stone Lees. I have only seen two others all year. (Phil M)

Saturday 19th September 2009 Newington Ramsgate

I found this nice Western Conifer Seed Bug in my hallway today - no doubt it had crawled indoors through an open window overnight? I've been seeing them on the Portland Observatory website this past couple of years - they are rather smart things. They are nearly an inch long with bright yellow tiger stripes on the abdomen which is hidden on the settled insect underneath the wings. They can fly pretty well too. It's only the second one I've ever seen after one which I found in one of my moth traps during the summer. (Phil M)

Wednesday 9th September 2009 Broadstairs Thanet

Monday 7th September2009:Reading Street area. A specimen of the spectacular hornet like hoverfly  Volucella zonaria flew into my kitchen today. Although at one time a great dipteran rarity it is now much more abundant although this is only my third Thanet sighting . (Mike Longdon)

Sunday 6th September 2009 Sandwich bay Area

A few Small Whites a Comma and a Speckled Wood were all the butterflies that I  noted around the elms and gully's, a few Common Darters and Migrant Hawkers were seen on Restharrow. (Gadget)
