Monkton ThanetAn unusually obliging Marsh Frog was the
'highlight' of a rather blustery visit to Monkton. I could mention leafmines
but you would only end up pulling your hair out; which some of you can ill
afford. I won't mention names because Phil is very sensitive about such
things. Oops! (F Solly)
Thursday 23rd October 2008 Margate Thanet
22/10/2008. A surprise visitor to the sitting room
about 10pm this evening was a Western Conifer Seed Bug. A North
American species accidentally introduced into Europe in 1999 and first seen
in the UK in 2007, (F Solly)

Monday 13th October 2008 Kingsgate Area
I watched a Weasel for quite a while today. It
appeared several times, within ten feet of me, on the fence, in the
undergrowth and also on the mown grass by the wooden benches opposite the
Fayreness while I was busy watching some stonechats. (Simon Piggott)
Saturday 11th October 2008 Church Wood
An afternoon wander around the Denstroude end of the
Church Wood complex. The wood was surprisingly dry and fungi rather scarce
as a consequence. A few Fly Agarics in areas with Birch, a scattering
of almost totally eaten Russulas, the odd clump of Sulphur Tuft
and Mycena, just one very slimy Porcelain Fungus, Black Bulgar
on some Oak logs, the Puff Ball - Lycoperdon perlatum,
Amethyst Deceiver and a few clumps of Gymnopilus junonius
was about it. Other than that, a Comma was the only Butterfly, a
single Hornet briefly on the path and the odd Common Darter.

Thursday 9th October 2008 Trenley Woods
Spent afternoon searching the undergrowth for fungi to
photograph. As the weather had been wet this summer expected to see plenty,
but specimens were few and far between. Some Fly agarics, (Amanita
muscaria) Map (Amanita citrine), Sulphur Tufts and Mycena ssp.
on old stumps a Shaggy Inkcap and a Parasol fungi,
lots of Amethest fungi. Two surprises were a confused
flowering Wood Anemone and a large Slow Worm that crossed the
path. (Don Wilks)
Monday 6th September 2008 North Foreland

Porpoise heading south close in but little else (F Solly)
