Monday 29th October 2007 Fowlmead Country Park
Owing to the teachers training day, I had three of my
Grandsons for the day so the Country park was the chosen location, the only
notable finds were 5 Shaggy Inkcaps (Coprinus comatus) and a
good distribution of Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria) (Gadget)
Saturday 20th October 2007 Trenley Woods
A walk in autumn sunshine looking for fungi, in the
woods near the old Canterbury refuse dump, first found was a clump of
Shaggy Parasol fungi, this was followed by a large number of Magpie
Inkcaps in various stages from just appearing to auto-digesting,
growing on lines of old wood shredding. Smaller species of Inkcaps
were also found along with Amethyst Deceivers, boleti, sulphur tufts
along with other species I am not knowledgeable to name, just hope I have
named these correctly. (Don Wilks)
Friday19th
October 2007 Grove Ferry AM
I visited the reserve in glorious sunshine this morning
to photograph birds but no luck. On the way out, just before the gate to the
road the brambles, ivy and sycamore leaves were covered in Harlequin
Ladybirds, various colour varieties as well as pupa and larva. On
arriving home yet another Hummingbird Hawk Moth feeding in
my garden. (Don Wilks)
Friday 19th October 2007
Pegwell Cliff-top
Pegwell Cliff-top at lunchtime produced a
scattering of Butterflies - mostly Large and Small Whites, a
few Red Admirals and singles of Painted Lady, Peacock,
Speckled Wood and Holly Blue. (F Solly)
Wednesday 17th October 2007 Pegwell Cliff-top
Scraped the bottom of the barrel during a lunchtime
jaunt along Pegwell Cliff-top and still found little of interest. I did come
across a few specimens of the Snail - Cochlicella acuta
on a lichen encrusted wall but not much else. (F Solly)
Monday 15th October 2007 Garden Minster Thanet
In the last two days a Hummingbird Hawkmoth has
been feeding on garden flowers, also seen have been Peacock, Red Admiral
and a Speckled Wood on Buddleia. (Don Wilks)
Saturday 13th October 2007 Pegwell Cliff-Top
A walk along Pegwell Cliff-top after emptying the moth
trap produced little of note, although there was a small clump of
Glistening Ink-caps. (F Solly)
Tuesday 9th October 2007 boat trip from Sandwich
to Pegwell
About 10 Common Seals down the river (Tim H)
Saturday 6th October 2007 Kingsgate Thanet
A few Common Darters and Migrant Hawkers
enjoying the sun in sheltered locations at Kingsgate. Not great for
Butterflies, mostly Red Admirals and Speckled Woods with the
odd Comma, Peacock and a single Painted Lady. Still a few
Dwarf Thistles flowering - rather a local plant on Thanet due to lack of
suitable habitat. (F Solly)
Saturday 6th
October 2007 Shuart to Coldharbour Lagoon
Quite a few insects around the area, enjoying the
autumn sunshine. Common Darter and Migrant Hawker
dragonflies were very numerous along the farm track and railway embankment
whilst butterflies were represented by several Small White,
3 Painted Lady, 3 Red Admiral and a
Peacock. (Dylan)
Thursday 4th October 2007 Ramsgate Cemetery
Between 30 to 40 Grey Squirrels they were
everywhere
gathering acorns, Butterflies 7 Red Admirals, 5 Small Whites,
2 Large Whites, and 1 Peacock (Gadget)
Wednesday 3rd October 2007 Pegwell Cliff Top
Good numbers of Butterflies in mostly cloudy conditions during a
lunchtime jaunt along Pegwell Cliff-top. Small and Large Whites were
of course common, as were Red Admirals - mostly as Ivy Blossom. 10
Peacocks is a good number for October and there were singles of Comma
and Painted Lady. 3 Clouded Yellows may or may not have been
migrants. (F Solly)
