Wednesday 7th November 2007

I came across a nice specimen of Birch Polypore in Pegwell road - uncommon on Thanet due to the relative scarcity of, somewhat surprisingly - Birch        (F Solly)

Tuesday 6th November 2007 Garden Dumpton Thanet

Working around the garden today during the afternoon, I came across an Oak Bush Cricket, an I also had a Red Admiral go though the garden. (Gadget)

Sunday 4th November 2007 Denstroude Wood

An afternoon visit to Denstroude Wood, very dry, so rather surprisingly lots of fungi, especially in areas with beech. Probably the most impressive was the incredibly slimy Porcelain Fungus - very common on fallen beech and it was nice to see a few Stinkhorns - though past their best. Some of the others included; Amethyst Deceiver, Common Funnel Cap, Beechwood Sickener, Blackish-purple Russula, Wood Blewit and impressive in their own way Black Bulgar. Moving into areas containing more Birch, Fly Agaric became frequent - as you would expect. (F Solly)

Saturday 3rd November 2007 Pegwell

A frequent visitor (up to 3) in the Pegwell trap throughout the autumn has been the fairly impressive Devil's Coach-horse. (F Solly)
