Wednesday 25th May 2011 Sandwich Bay Area
Late News
A little time spent in the area today, while i was photographing the
Southern Marsh Orchids (Dactylorhiza praetermissa) I noted a few
Goat's-Beard (Tragopogon pratensis) which I think are
cracking, around the waters edge were a few Azure Damselflies also
male and female Emperor Dragonfly and then I noticed out on the weed
one Red-eyed Damselfly, (Gadget)
Sunday 15th May 2011 Stodmarsh NNR
A morning session at the superb Stodmarsh NNR was made even more
enjoyable when I encountered a Mole swimming across the River Stour.
Not something you see every day? Hairy Dragonfly, Blue-tailed
and Variable Damselflies provided other non-avian interest. (Dylan)
Friday 6th May 2011 Sandwich Bay area
While over Sandwich Bay today I noted the following: Common
Twayblade in good number and a few Lords & Ladies were in view
around the gulley's , also Cardinal Beetles and a few Tibellus
oblongus Spiders, a Crane Fly Tipula maxima was a nice
find in the Elms, but the St Mark's flies must take top spot as they are in
record numbers, I have never seen so many (Gadget)
Wednesday 4th May 2011 Sandwich Bay area
A trip over to Sandwich Bay today to get a
photograph of the Green-winged Orchids, while there I had a look
round for other bit that could be around, but that Easley wind didn't help
things, St Mark's fly's were taking shelter in the bushes along with
a day flying moth Adela reaumurella, and a hoverfly
Myathropa florea, Butterflies were few with only Green-Veined
White, Small Heath and Speckled Wood noted, (Gadget)
Tuesday 3rd May 2011 Monkton Nature Reserve
A quick hour & a Half look around the chalk pit today
(13:30 to 15:00) Result in 9 Common Blue Butterflies, 5 Brown
Argus Butterflies, 3 Orange tip Butterflies, 15 Green
Hairstreak Butterflies, 2 Large White Butterflies, 3 Green
veined White Butterflies, and best of all because I've never seen them
in Thanet before were 2 Small Copper Butterflies, Around the Pond 1
Broad bodied chaser Dragonfly & 2 Hawker type Dragonflies
which i could not id. Blue & Yellow in colour.. in the pond 1 Grass Snake
swam across into the reeds & a Crested Newt was just under the

Tuesday 3rd May 2011 Stoneless
Pegwell Bay
One of my rare visits to Pegwell Bay this morning in a
strong easily wind, as I wandered thought Stoneless I came across the this
chap walking around, a (male) Minotaur Beetle (Typhaeus typhoeus)
one of the Dung Beetle family, and what a cracking beetle he is, (Gadget)
Sunday 1st May 2011 Ash Levels
This is the fist Stoat that I have observed out on the Ash Levels, it
came up from one of the dikes as wet as can be as if it had been for a swim,
more like it was looking for small chicks, (Gadget)
