Thursday 29th March 2007 Dumpton Thanet

After a drop of rain a large Common Frog was observed on the patio around the plant pots. (Gadget)

Wednesday 28th March 2007 Ramsgate harbour & Hoverport

A lunchtime visit to the Hoverport. A selection of plants in flower, nothing remarkable and just the usual suspects. Sticky Mouse-ear, Common Mouse-ear, Chickweed, Hairy Bittercress, Common Whitlow-grass, Red Dead-nettle, White Dead-nettle, Dandelion, Groundsel, Smooth Sowthistle, Common Field Speedwell, Oxford Ragwort and of course Alexanders. Good numbers of Butterflies again between the harbour and hoverport.  Peacocks, Red Admiral, Comma, Small Whites, a Holly Blue and a Large White (early?).  The only other thing of any note was a single Bee Fly. (F Solly)

Tuesday 27th March 2007 Ramsgate Cemetery

Small Whites, Peacocks, Red Admirals were noted around the Cemetery and Grey Squirrels were very active

Monday 26th March 2007 Western Undercliff Ramsgate

A lunchtime cycle along the Western Undercliff produced 6 Small Whites, 1 Green-veined White, 1 Peacock and 1 Small Tortoiseshell. Lots of naturalised Wallflowers and Hoary Stock on the cliff face and a small amount of Oxford Ragwort. (F Solly)

Sunday 25th March 2007 Bourne End Hertfordshire

Another weekend away from the delights of Thanet. This time Bev and I were baby-sitting my two nephews whilst my brother and his wife ruined a good walk with a golfing break up in Scotland! We had great fun, cos we can give them back. I even managed a bit of a break and found this Natterer's Bat (Myotis nattereri) flying around the Horse Chestnut trees at the bottom of the garden. It was in broad daylight and, from the pics; it would seem to have a damaged wing. I'm not 100% confident of the id and any opinions would be welcome. (Dylan)

Friday16th March 2007 Monkton NR Late News

A brief visit to Monkton NR to check out the pond revealed good numbers of Smooth Newts - several feasting on frogspawn, several Great-crested Newts and Frogs and 2 Grass Snakes. (F Solly)

Thursday 15th March 2007 Dumpton garden

Insect activity continues to be far more interesting than the birding! 2 & 7 Spot (yet surprisingly no Harlequin) Ladybirds, Bumble-bees and several species of Fly have been noted around the garden, of late. A Comma (butterfly) was sunning itself on the pedestal of the bird-bath as I replenished the feeders this morning. (Dylan)

Tuesday 13th March 2007 Dumpton Thanet

while I was tidying the garden this morning, I noticed a Wood Mouse around the wood pile. (Gadget)

Sunday 11th March 2007 Dumpton & Monkton NR Thanet

This morning was taken up with jobs around the garden, but on noticing how many Flies, Bees and Insects were about, it  induced me to go  up into the field behind my house, were I recoded 1 Peacock Butterfly and 1 Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly and observed a Wood Mouse along the hedgerow, after lunch I made my way over to Monkton NR were the reserve was in abundance with Spring bursting out all around. (Gadget)

Friday 9th March 2007 Pegwell Bay

8/3. A whizz around the Pegwell area at lunchtime in very warm and sunny conditions produced good numbers of Peacocks with odd Commas and Red Admirals, a Small Tortoiseshell and a remarkably early Small White. (F Solly)

Thursday 7th March 2007 Minster Thanet

Watchester Lane Minster pm. Saw two Small Tortoishells flying around in the sun, first this year. (Don Wilks)

Thursday 7th March 2007 Broadstairs Garden

A small bat, which I assume to be a Pipistrelle seen this evening, flying around the garden. The first of the year.  (Jerry Lanfear)

Sunday 4th March 2007 Minster Thanet Photo Update

As mentioned this morning two more images from my pond inhabitants. Newly emerged Tadpoles hanging on their jelly and Great Diving beetle swimming. (Don Wilks)

Thursday 1st March 2007 Minster Thanet

Attached are photos from Frogs and Spawn in my pond also Great Diving Beetle. I have had Frog Spawn in my pond since 21st February at one time over 50 Frogs were counted, numbers down now but a couple are still spawning. The amount of Spawn is overwhelming but once they hatch the Blackbirds and Water Beasties will soon decimate heir numbers. (Don Wilks)

Thursday 1st March 2007 Elvington garden

I had my first Bumble Bee of the year today 28th February 2007 in the garden at Elvington. (TRP)
