Tuesday 30th June 2009 Grove Ferry

Butterfly's etc on the wing this morning from 10.00-12.30 included 6 Marbled Whites still between the ramp and the gate by the main road, 2 Small Skipper, 3 Small Tortoiseshells, 4 Painted Lady's, 15+ Meadow Brown, 6 Large White and a single Comma (Craig Sammels)

Saturday 27th June 2009 Kingsdown to Bockhill NT

I had a slow stroll, along the cliff-top, between Kingsdown and Bockhill. Jack & Phil Chantler were also enjoying the insects (birding was absolute crap!),  butterflies being present in amazing numbers. Marbled White, Meadow Brown, Ringlet and Large Skipper were everywhere, whilst Red Admiral, Large White, Small Copper, Speckled Wood and Painted Lady were also noted along my walk. Having arranged to meet at the Bluebird Cafe, I spent some time around the immediate area, while I waited for Bev to arrive, finding several Silver Y'sBurnet Companion and a single Toadflax Brocade, as I attempted to get some images of the many Narrow-bordered Five Spot Burnet Moths that were along the cliff-top. Very enjoyable. (Dylan)

Sunday 14th June 2009 Sandwich Bay

An unexpected and therefore very brief visit on Sandwich Bay, A quick look around the Whitehouse produced 2 Foresters amongst the Southern Marsh Orchids and good numbers of the plume Stenoptilia pterodactyla. Restharrow Scrape had 11 male Red-veined Darters. Whilst in the Sandwich Bay area, I released the Agonopterix cnicella that I had bred from the Sea Holly - Sandwich being the only Kent location. (F Solly)

Sunday 14th June 2009 Kingsgate

I had intended to check the Golf Course at Kingsgate in the morning but was unwell, so a late afternoon visit had to do, the new irrigation reservoir had 50+ Black-tailed Skimmer (scarce here until the reservoir was built last year), 1 Broad-bodied Chaser, 1 Emperor and 5 Red-veined Darters. The grassland Butterflies are now appearing with Marbled Whites, Meadow Browns, Large and Small Skippers, A few Common Blues but just 1 Small Blue, the odd Painted Lady and 1 Red Admiral, A new location for Man Orchid, a single Lizard Orchid (the first that I have seen on the Golf Course) and a few Pyramidal Orchids just stating to flower. Much of the Long-leaf has been sprayed but some still persists although is not yet in flower, in the shady areas Ivy Broomrape is doing well. Hardly a surprise these days, a single day flying Rannoch Looper was the only macro moth seen. (F Solly)

Saturday 6th June 2009 East Blean Wood

A couple of photos of Heath Fritillary taken today at East Blean wood, A quick look late afternoon revealed about 40 or so in a small area.           (Marc Heath)

Wednesday 3rd June 2009 Garden Dumpton Thanet

Painted Lady's are still around the garden but not so many as there was at the weekend, Holy Blues and both Large and Small Whites are seen daily. (Gadget)

Monday 1st June 2009 Hoverport Pegwell

I was furious to see that someone has dug up & stolen the large clump of Southern Marsh Orchids that have been on the Hoverport for at least 3 Years! (Claire Ward)
