December 2006 Report has been Archived

Wednesday 31st January 2007 Elvington

Two Red Admirals were sunning them selves on the Community hall wall, and another reported by the White horse pub. (TRP)

Monday 29th January 2007 Ramsgate

29/1. A Red Admiral was fluttering around Ramsgate in rather cool and overcast conditions - presumably having been disturbed from its hibernation site. (F Solly)

Sunday 28th January 2007 Seaton Gravel Pits

A bright spot in the walk around Seaton this morning was a prolonged view of a Stoat along the lake shoreline, foraging amongst the fallen branches of an old ash tree. (Norman M)

Thursday 25th January 2007 Late News

Checked the 'Bat' Cave at Monkton Nature Reserve on 21/1/07 for hibernating lepidoptera - 4 Peacocks and 3 Heralds - similar counts to just about every winter that I have checked it (and obviously very disappointing as I was after a rarity). A few Common Daisy and Sweet Violet in flower on the way to the cave. (F Solly)

Monday 22nd January 2007 Stodmarsh NNR

In the past few weeks there have been a few Clouded Agarics (Clitocybe nebulosa) under an oak tree at the start of the nature trail footpath at the Stodmarsh car park end. Last year I found them just before Christmas, this year they appear to be a bit later. (Norman M)

Sunday 21st January 2007 Seaton Gravel Pits

On the botanical front there is a plant of Common Hogweed in full flower by the carp lake; extraordinary! (Norman M)

Monday 15th January 2007 Ramsgate Cemetery

1 Red Admiral sunning itself in the south west corner (Craig S)

Saturday 6th January 2007 Margate Sands

There were 79 Common Seals basking on Margate Sands at low-tide this morning. (Tim Hodge)

Friday 5th January 2007 River Stour Pegwell Bay

There were no fewer than 23 Common Seals in the river mouth at Pegwell Bay this morning, all but two basking on the mud as the tide came up. I also saw a Grey Seal there about a month ago. (Tim Hodge) Could this be a Pegwell record? (most Likely! but if you no different please let me know Gadget)

Thursday 4th January 2007 Ellington Park, Ramsgate

I have to report the sighting of three Red Admirals in Ellington Park, Ramsgate at midday today; all three were seen close-up and all appeared to be 'fresh'. (Phil Charlton)

Tuesday 2nd January 2007 Westgate Thanet

I saw a tatty Peacock butterfly in my garden in Westgate on New Year’s day. (Tim Hodge)
