Saturday 31st January 2009 West Hythe
I went over to West Hythe in a deliberate attempt to get some images of
the Mink which has been sighted regularly in the area
of the dam. I sat down on the bank, looking over the side stream to view
the scattered rocks on the far bank. Although they were in shadow, the
light wasn't bad and after a short wait up popped my quarry. It was
foraging amongst the rocks, sometimes swimming in the stream, and
eventually found the corpse of a medium sized Pike,
which it then proceeded to drag up the bank. I watched it feeding for
over 10 minutes before it wandered off back into the bank side
vegetation. (Dylan)
Saturday 10th January 2009 Minster Marshes
Whilst out and about on my wanderings, I saw four
Foxes at various points around the marshes. The frozen
ground obviously making life hard for these magnificent canines, thus they
are forced to seek food in the daylight. By "squeaking" (sucking air through
my closed lips) I managed to get two of the animals to come towards me. The
photos are of one that came to within 30m. (Dylan)
Sunday 4th January 2009 Pegwell Bay
There were 23 Common Seals hauled out
on the bank of the R. Stour when I counted. Two others (youngsters I
suspect) were swimming in the river and were extremely inquisitive. I lay on
the bank, with my camera, and they came within 15m of me - eventually
becoming bored and swimming back to rejoin the others. (Dylan)
