Friday 28th December 2007 Deal Pier

A Harbour Porpoise rolled on the surface a couple of times as it headed south past the pier at 08.58hrs. I thought it quite unusual in December, especially with the amount of west in the wind. (Dylan)

Sunday 23rd December 2007 Minster Marshes Thanet

I was fortunate to find a young Fox hunting the reeded ditch on the far side of a trackside field, by squeaking (sucking through closed lips!) I lured the Fox across the field and within 15m of where I was crouched. It must have been very hungry to react like this in daylight. A Brown Rat was the only other mammal seen today. (Dylan)

Sunday 16th December 2007 Thanet Area

Whilst aimlessly cycling around, I came across a nice selection of the common Thanet Ferns on a wall in Broadstairs. On this particular wall, there was an abundance of Hart's-tongue Fern, with a small number of Black Spleenwort and Wall Rue - the latter being by far the commonest Fern on Thanet. On a flint wall at nearby North Foreland, the scarcer Intermediate Polybody could be seen in some numbers. (F Solly)

Friday 14th December 2007 Stodmarsh NNR

A very brief visit to Stodmarsh, primarily to collect some leaf mines, produced a rather unseasonal specimen of Angelica in flower. (F Solly)
