Thursday 20th August 2009  Stonelees

Whilst wandering around Stone Lees looking at Flycatchers today Phil Charlton and I came across this rather splendid female Grey Bush Cricket. It's the first one I've ever heard of in the Pegwell area let alone seen. They used to be present across the river at Sandwich - the only other place I've seen them is on the beach at Kingsdown. There are 10+ are also  Wasp Spiders hanging around (get it?) down near the garage pools at Pegwell. Check the grass either end of the path just below the cycle path within ten yards of the kissing gate if you want to see them. I also think there are some Lesser Marsh Grasshoppers there too but I've been far too lazy to catch one and find out for certain. I would assume that if this is what they are it's the only place on this side of Thanet where you'll find any? (Phil M)

Friday 14th August 2009 Bushy Rough, Alkham Valley

Adonis Blues (1 male very fresh) and Chalkhill Blues at Bushy Rough, Alkham Valley: both in the same frame!  How often does that happen?  A first for both species for my daughter, so a seriously successful twitch.  Also Wall Browns, Gatekeepers, Meadow Browns, Brown Argus and Painted Ladies. (Jeremy Scarlett)

Friday 14th August 2009 Kingsgate Thanet

A quick look at the Kingsgate 'reservoir' at lunchtime for Dragonflies produced 2 female Red-veined Darters - other than that just 6 Black-tailed Skimmers (F Solly)

Friday 14th August 2009 Pegwell Bay

Whilst wandering around the country park this morning with Dave Coppen we happened across this four inch Leopard Slug
on one of the paths. It's the first time I've seen one here in years - there is of course the chance that I have overlooked them in the past? (Phil M)

Thursday 6th August 2009 North Foreland area

One very tame Purple Hairstreak on the mature Turkish Oak and then on my daughter's hand!  (Jeremy Scarlett)

Wednesday 5th August 2009 Blean Woods Rough Common

While bird-watching in Blean  on a very hot and humid day many Comma Butterflies were around plus many species of Bees and Hover Flies, one of the Hover Flies was Volucella pellucens (Graham Crick)

Tuesday 4th August 2009  Manston Thanet

While doing a bit of weed cutting at work today we came across a couple of Wasp Spiders and managed a couple of not particularly good pictures. (Simon Piggott)

Monday 3rd August 2009 Kingsgate area

2/8. A quick visit to the Golf Course at Kingsgate mid-morning, primarily to check the reservoir for Dragonflies. About 30 Small Red-eyed Damselflies were new for the area. Other bits included Azure and Common Blue Damselflies, Common Darters, Migrant Hawkers and Black-tailed Skimmers. A few Purple Hairstreaks amongst the Holm Oaks but on the whole rather poor for Butterflies. About a quarter of the Longleaf escaped the herbicide although very little is actually in flower. (F Solly)

Wednesday 1st July 2009 Dumpton Thanet

With Painted Lady's covering the buddleias around the garden estimated count of 136 I pleased to see a 4 Small Tortoiseshell, 3 Red Admiral, 1 Comma, 3 Meadow Brown, 2 Gatekeeper, 5 Holly blue, 9 Small White and 14 Large White other bits 1 Common Darter and 1 Migrant Hawker over round the pond area this morning (Gadget)
