Thursday 20th October 2011 Newington Ramsgate

Other than a few Light Brown Apple moths and Emmelina monodactyla's there were only thee moths in the traps last night, singles of Rusty Dot, Angle Shades and a Pink Barred Sallow - the Sallow being only my third ever capture here. The night of the 16th produced 2 Mallow, 1 Feathered Thorn, 1 Turnip, 1 Shuttle Shaped Dart, 2 Large Wainscot and a Rosy Rustic, the night of the 17th - 3 Mallow, 2 Angle Shades plus singles of Large Wainscot and Silver Y then the night of the 18th - singles of L Album Wainscot, Lunar Underwing, Red Line Quaker, Angle Shades and 3 Large Wainscot so at this rate I'll be catching nothing very, very soon! (Phil M)

Monday 17th October 2011 Newington Ramsgate

A cool and clear night but I caught a bit more than the night prior. A very late Riband Wave was pick of the bunch ... the others were 2 Mallow then singles of Turnip, Shuttle Shaped Dart, Rosy Rustic and 2 Large Wainscot. I also saw a Hummingbird Hawk-moth around the Country Park down at Pegwell earlier on. (Phil M)

Sunday 16th October 2011 Adjacent King George VI Park, Broadstairs

Well things had really slowed down, last Friday 7th Oct only got 5 moths, but some quality ones: Blair's Shoulder Knot, lovely Black Rustic and a nice Large Wainscot and a Large Yellow Underwing. Friday 14th Oct the trap revealed twice as many moths: 3 Light Brown Apple Moth, 1 Silver Y, 1 Large Yellow Underwing, 1 Blair's Shoulder Knot, 1 Common Marbled Carpet, 1 Lunar Underwing,1 Blastobasis lacticolella and 1 Shuttle-shaped Dart, (Sue Smith)

Sunday 16th October 2011 Newington Ramsgate

After one of my traps went up in flames on Friday after I accidentally left it switched on all day whilst covered over with a triple layer of carpet, I fixed up my spare and got both traps up and running last night after a whole night off. There were only 4 macro moths - singles of Mallow, Lunar Underwing, a late Vine's Rustic and a Beaded Chestnut. Nothing of any significance has occurred here this past week on the moth front - the occasional Clancy's Rustic, Dusky Lemon Sallow, up to 2 Sallows, Large Wainscot plus a Barred Sallow on the night of the 10th. (Phil M)

Thursday 13th October 2011 St Peters Thanet

I found a Hummingbird Hawkmoth in a very sluggish state on my garden path this morning, in St Peters. I'm hoping the warm weather tomorrow may reanimate it! (John Carnell)

Night of 4/10. Bitterly disappointing to have all but missed out on the migrant influx - a Delicate doesn't quite cut the mustard. Bits of minor Thanet interest last night were; Merveille du Jour, Feathered Brindle, Deep Brown Dart (fairly common in the past but now scarce), Pink-barred Sallow and the first Feathered Thorn of the autumn. (F Solly)
