29th November 2006 Newington Thanet
I'm still catching a few moths of late - Light-brown Apple Moth, Emmelina
monodactyla - plus the occasional Silver Y, Rusty Dot or a
bit more regularly 1 - 3 Diamond Back's. Overnight I took Mottled
Umber - quite a rare moth in my garden and nowhere near annual. (Phil

much better than that! (F Solly)

24th November 2006 Kingsgate & Pegwell Traps
Night
of 23/11. The excitement continues almost unabated in the moth traps
with a veritable plethora of the critters. At Kingsgate, 1 November
Moth, 1 Diamond-back, 7 LBAM's, 1 Crocidosema
plebejana, 1 Blastobasis lacticolella, 1 Blastobasis
lignea and 1 Mompha epilobiella. Whilst at Pegwell,
1 Feathered Thorn, 1 Dark Sword-grass, 1 Silver Y, 2
LBAM's, 1 Rusty Dot, 1 Eudonia angustea and 2 Emmelina
monodactyla. No sign of either the Cauliflower or
Concrete Moths, which is surprising given the amount of habitat
available locally. (F Solly)

Kingsgate, Garden & Pegwell Traps
Night of 8/11. A scattering of moths in the traps but rather
disappointing, especially for residents given the conditions in the first
part of the night.
At Kingsgate, there were: 1 Gem, 3 November Moths, 1 Turnip,
1 Lesser Yellow Underwing, 1 Pearly Underwing, 1 Dark
Chestnut, 2 Silver Y, 3 Rusty Dot, single Monopis
obviella, Diamond-back, Eudonia angustea, Palpita
vitralis and a few LBAM's.
A Clancy's Rustic, Large Wainscot and Rusty Dot were the
highlights from my garden and they really are highlights as my garden is
'rubbish'.
At Pegwell, 2 November Moth, single Feathered Thorn, Large
Yellow Underwing, Lesser Yellow Underwing, Pearly Underwing, Satellite,
Dark Chestnut, Angle Shades, Scarce Bordered Straw, and Silver Y,
2 Green-brindled Crescents, 3 Diamond-backs, 3 Rusty Dots,
1 Rush Veneer, 1 Crocidosema plebejana, 1 Blastobasis
decolorella and a few LBAM's (F Solly)
Thursday
9th November 2006 Newington Thanet
The temperature was up overnight and although I caught a few moths, the
species I took were disappointing if I'm honest. The traps contained: 2 Rusty
Dot, 1 Monopis obviella, 1 Diamond Back, 1 November
Moth, 3 Silver Y, 1 Lesser Yellow Underwing, 1 Setaceous
Hebrew Character and most remarkably an insanely late Celypha
lacunana. There was also a Hawthorn Shield-bug and 2 Harlequin
Ladybirds in the traps. (Phil M)

Only 1 macro moth overnight - a Feathered Thorn. (Phil M)
Tuesday 7th November 2006 Dumpton Thanet

Crescent. (Gadget)
Monday 6th November 2006 Newington Thanet
Whilst the only moths that actually made it into the traps were a handful
of Light-brown Apple-moths and a single Emmelina monodactyla,
I did find singles of Eudonia angustia, Rusty Dot, November
Moth and Large
Wainscot sitting around on the walls around the lights overnight.

A few moths last night included 2 Rusty Dot Pearls,
1 Large Wainscot and 1 Agonopterix alstromeriana (Tim

Sunday 5th November 2006 Newington Thanet
Still
quiet but I did find yet another Red-line Quaker on the outside of
one of the traps overnight. I've only ever taken 4 in the past seven years
of back garden trapping and this individual was the 9th of this autumn so
far. Other than the obvious Light-brown Apple-moth and Emmelina
monodactyla the only other things I came across were a pair of November
Moths. There was also a Harlequin Ladybird sitting in one of
the traps. (Phil M)

Sunday 5th November 2006 Westgate Thanet
I ran my trap last night, the first time for several days. I caught a
moth (just the one), a Large Wainscot. (Tim Hodge)
Saturday
4th November 2006 Newington Thanet
Buoyed by the sighting of November Moth, Rusty Dot plus a few Apple
Moths and Emmelina monodactyla being seen on the outside
of the traps I decided to open up both traps today (I haven’t even
looked in them for 2 days) and was pleasantly surprised to find a few
macro moths a surprise due to the very low temperatures weave had this
past few nights. The first traps was empty save for a few Light-brown
Apple moths but in the second trap I came across 1 Green-brindled
Crescent, 2 Angle
Shades and a Large Wainscot. (Phil M)
Wednesday 1st November 2006 Westcliff
Thanet
Night of 31 October/1 November. I was surprised to
catch any moths last night considering the cool temperature. However, I
caught 1 Scarce Bordered Straw, 1 Diamond-back
Moth, Rusty-dot Pearl, 2 Turnip,
an Angle Shades and a tardy Shuttle-shaped Dart.
Not a lot but the best I could do on this Halloween night. (Dave B)
Tuesday 31st October 2006 Westgate Thanet
A few bits last night included a Brick, 2 Large
Wainscots, 2 Angle Shades, 3 Diamond-backs, 3 Lesser
Yellow Underwings, 2 Rusty Dot Pearls, 2 Turnip Moths, 4
Blair's Shoulder Knots and 2 Silver Y. (Tim Hodge)
Tuesday
31st October 2006 Newington Thanet
A few bits and pieces made it into the traps overnight. The catch included
12 Rusty Dot, 2 Rush Veneer, 1 Diamond Back, 2 November
Moth, 1 Gem, 1 Turnip, 1 Angle Shades, 5 Silver
Y, 1 Large Wainscot and 1 Dark Sword-grass. The night
previous was very quiet with only 4 macros and a handful of migrant
Pyralids on show - though 2 of the macros were singles of Vestal
and Yellow-line Quaker, which made up for the lack of numbers.
Looks like it'll hard to get much moth-wise for the next night or two
looking at the weather forecast - dammit!! (Phil M)
