The Moth Trap had a single Striped Hawk - in a similar state of wear as the Painted Ladies, Pearly Underwing and Dark Sword-grass. Of note for Thanet amongst the resident species were a single Scalloped Hazel and 4 Shears - although on the whole a rather poor night. (F Solly)

Not much in the traps overnight (both traps ran all night - at long last!) only singles of: Common Swift, Muslin Moth, Silver Y, Bright Line Brown Eye, Turnip and a couple of Shuttle-shaped Darts. Rubbish - though the temperature didn’t seem very good last night for that sort of thing. (Phil M)

Thursday 18th May 2006 Garden Newington Thanet

It was pretty evident there was quite a bit of migration overnight. I woke up when the rain stopped at about 3.00am so decided to check the traps to find there were Diamond-backed Moths all over the place. On emptying the traps this morning there were 30-40 + Diamond-backs in them, and I would estimate there were at least 100 kicking around the lights/garden
overnight? Other migrants included 13 Silver Y's and a single Turnip - the latter may or may not have been a migrant? Unfortunately nothing more exotic had turned up. Other moths included: 2 Waved Umber, 2+ Brimstone, 2 Common Swift, 2 White Ermine, 1 Lime Hawk-moth, 1 Angle Shades, 19 Shuttle-shaped Dart, 1 Spectacle, 2 Dark Spectacle, 1 Campion, 1 Heart and Dart, 2 Bright-line Brown-eye and a Hebrew Character.
