A
little better last night for moths the trap held eight moths
in total which included my first Hebrew Character &
Clouded Drab for this year, 3 Common Quaker, 3
Emmelina monodactyla
(Gadget)
Wednesday 24th March 2010 Pegwell Trap

and Clouded Drab, 5 Hebrew Character and 6
Common Quakers, (F Solly)
Wednesday 24th March 2010 Dumpton Thanet

Night of 23rd.... among the usual suspects of 5 Clouded Drab, 27
Hebrew Character, 19 Common Quaker a couple of
Twin-spotted Quaker and an Early Grey were new
for the season. Singles of Oak Beauty, Small Quaker
and Chestnut rounded off a good catch on a cold
night. (Bill Martin)
Tuesday 23rd March 2010 Eastry
Night of 22nd., the first rather scruffy Dotted Border and neater
Engrailed were best of the bunch. 15 Hebrew
Character and 10 Common Quaker were all that were
in the box after the Blackbirds had cleaned up outside!!
(Bill Martin)
Sunday 21st March 2010 Newington Ramsgate
Six macro moths overnight, six!! I
almost felt in need of a lie down. The culprits were 4
Common Quakers plus singles of Hebrew Character
and Clouded Drab. (Phil M)
Saturday 20th March 2010 Newington Ramsgate
Two macro moths in one night for the
first time in 2010 ... exciting eh? They were singles of
March Moth and Hebrew Character. (Phil M)
Friday 19th March 2010 Newington Ramsgate
Two moths overnight ... shock horror!! Two!! A rather flashy coloured
Clouded Drab and an Aogonepterix specie
which I couldn't be bothered to pot up! (Phil M)
Friday 19th March 2010 Eastry
Night of 18th., produced 20 macros of 4 species, the biggest bag of
the year so far. Singles of Oak Beauty and Chestnut,
10 Hebrew Character and 8 Common Quaker. Night
of 17th., a couple of Clouded Drab, a March Moth

Martin)
Thursday 18th March 2010 Newington Ramsgate
Yet 'another' moth at the traps ... it's frantic out there I can hardly
keep up with it. Overnight a non too early, Early Grey
made it into the spring garden from hell. Whoopee! This is
only the fifth macro moth I've caught all year - I did get a
March Moth on the night of the 15th but that's it on
the Newington Moth front in 2010. (Phil M)
Thursday 18th March 2010 Leaf Mine
17/3/2010. A slight variant on the 'usual' types; one of the
predominantly white Acer species - this one being
Phyllonorycter acerifoliella from a Field Maple mine
collected from Mockett's Wood, St Peters. (F Solly)
Tuesday 16th March 2010 Pegwell Trap
Night
of 15/3. Still not that warm at night. At Pegwell there were
singles of: March Moth, Dotted Border, Hebrew
Character and Grey Shoulder-knot with no less
than 2 Common Quakers, (F Solly)
Sunday 14th March 2010 Leaf Mines
A few more of the little critters have emerged over the last couple of
days for your undoubted delight. Phyllonorycter
platani from London Plane outside St Laurence School
in Ramsgate, Phyllonorycter salicicolella from
Goat Sallow on the Hoverport and Phyllonorycter
kleemannella from Alder at Sandwich Bay. (F Solly)
Sunday 14th March 2010 Pegwell and
Kingsgate Trap
Now that we have seemingly lost the easterly wind, the Pegwell and
Kingsgate traps upped my carbon foot-print for the first
time this year last night - not much going on with just
Pale Brindled Beauty, Early Moth, Early Grey and Chestnut
. (F Solly)
Friday 12th March 2010 Newington Ramsgate
The first proper spring moth arrived at long last overnight - a
Common Quaker. I was starting to think it was never
going to happen. (Phil M)
Saturday 6th March 2010 Dumpton Thanet

1
Chestnut (Conistra
vaccinii) 2
Pale Brindled Beauty (Phigalia pilosaria) and
1 Satellite (Eupsilia transversa) 5 moths in
total was a surprise as the temperatures have not been that
good. (Gadget)
Thursday 4th March 2010 Leaf Mines
A couple more leaf-miners have emerged
to have you on the edge on your seats. The relatively scarce
- at least in these parts; although doubtless overlooked - Phyllonorycter
strigulatella from Grey Alder at Stonelees and
Phyllonorycter ulmifoliella from Birch at
Sandwich Bay - not many mines found so probably fairly
scarce there. (F Solly)
Thursday 4th March 2010 Dumpton Thanet Leaf Miner

Tuesday 2nd March 2010 Newington Thanet
2 'stunning' moths at
the MV's from the brightest lit garden in Thanet and beyond
- a White-shouldered House Moth and an
Agonopterix herecliana. Okay - I exaggerated
slightly. (Phil M)
Tuesday
2nd March 2010 Dumpton Thanet

the trap found just after dark, (Gadget)

Leaf Mines Late News
27th February 2010 A couple
of micros emerged from my over-wintering leaf mines today,
the tiny (2.75mm from head to wing-tip) Ectoedemia
septembrella - note the fetching eye-caps, from
Perforate St John's Wort at Sandwich Bay and the sllightly
larger and more attractive Phyllonorycter blancardella
from Apple at Kingsgate (F Solly)
