Monday
30th March 2009 Newington Thanet
3 moths in
the traps overnight - one of them was a Dotted Border
which is a moth I don't catch too often here in concrete
city. I've hardly been catching anything this past week or
more - just the occasional Hebrew Character,
Common Quaker and Early Grey. (Phil M)
Monday
30th March 2009 Beltinge
Night 29/3
- the first trapping I've done in over a week due to the
poor weather, it was chilly and frosty but the wind, at
least for my site, was favourable. 24 moths caught with
nothing to exciting, Hebrew Character, Common
Quaker, Small Quaker, Chestnut and Early Grey
being the moths in the trap. (Barry Hunt)
Friday 27th March 2009 Dumpton Thanet

Four
moths! How impressive is that? A Satellite was new for the
garden, others were Early Grey, Common Quaker
and Endrosis sarcitrella. Yesterday saw an
Agonopterix propinquella. Overwhelmed, I'm just
off to lie down. (Tim H)

Night of
14/3 - only four moths last night, 2 Hebrew Character,
1 Common Quaker and 1 Tawny Pinion, tonight

(Barry Hunt)
Sunday
15th March 2009 Newington Thanet
Only 3
moths overnight in the cool clear conditions but one of the
critters was a long awaited Oak Beauty - the first
I've ever caught in my garden - which might I add
'continues' to be far superior to old hairy has-beens gaff a
mere half a mile or less n/east of here, regardless of what
he might try and tell you. The other two macros were more
predictable - both being Common Quakers. I'm still to
catch a Hebrew Character this spring. (Phil M)

Friday 13th March 2009 Westgate
Thanet
Well, I joined the 2009 mothing club
last night, the trap going on for the first time this year.
I predicted between 0-2 moths and either Common Quaker
or Hebrew Character, so 1 moth (Common Quaker) came
as no great surprise. It’s alright for Barry, at least he’s
got decent habitat around his trap. (Tim H)
Friday
13th March 2009 Newington Thanet
A
veritable moth-fest overnight given how bad it's been here
of late, I caught 4 Common Quakers, 1 Early Grey,
1 Tawny Pinion and a Pale Brindled Beauty. Ooh
inn it exciting eh? (Phil M) (overly happy with meagre
pickings)

Thursday 12th march 2009 Newington Thanet
A funny
thing happened this morning. I went out to my moth trap and
found two weird creatures inside? I wasn't at all sure what
they were at first but something in the back of my mind was
nagging me that I'd seen something resembling them in the
distant past? After many hours of exhaustive research I'd
failed to identify these strange 'insects' for this is what
they were, of this I was certain. Then as a last resort I
tried a 'moth' book and lo and behold there they were - and
the weird creatures were indeed 'moths' they even had their
names written in English within the books pages. The first
one was a 'Common Quaker' and the second slightly
worse for wear individual was in fact a 'moth' known as the
'Chestnut'. Whatever next eh? Two apparently
extremely common macro moths in only one night - I'll be
breaking out the bubbly at this rate. I will keep the
insects for a short while in case evidence is required?
(Phil M)
