Thursday 29th March 2007 Broadstairs Thanet

I dug up two cocoons whilst gardening a few weeks ago and put them in a jam jar to see what emerged. Enclosed are some pics of the moth that emerged this morning. Hopefully you can identify it for me. (Identified as Angle Shades) The second cocoon is slightly smaller and yet to emerge. (Simon P)

Thursday 29th March 2007 Kingsgate & Pegwell Traps

Night of 28/3.  Awful mothing continues - and will get worse with another easterly blast due. At Kingsgate, 4 Common Quaker, 1 Hebrew Character, 2 Clouded Drab, 4 Early Grey and a Tawny Pinion. At Pegwell just 2 Common Quaker and a Pearly Underwing. (F Solly)

Wednesday 28th March 2007 Westgate Thanet

An Early Grey last night plus 1 Clouded Drab, 1 Common Quaker, the two common plumes plus a few Light Brown Apple Moths. (Tim Hodge)

Monday 26th March 2007 Dumpton Thanet

Last night  the 25th to 125MV light 1 March Moth, 1 Powdered Quaker, 1 Satellite, 1 Pine Beauty, 2 Light Brown Apple Moths, 2 Emmelina monodactyla and a Clouded Drab the night before. (Gadget)

Monday 26th March 2007 Westgate Thanet

A Tawny Pinion last night, along with a Common Quaker and 4 Light Brown Apple Moths, other than that not much recently, with my first Angle Shades of the year the previous night. (Tim Hodge)

Saturday 17th March 2007 Newington Thanet 

Not lots of moths in the traps overnight but there were 2 reasonably high quality moths for my garden Pine Beauty and Dotted Border, my second and c.sixth back garden records respectively. Otherwise just a handful of Common micros which included another Agonopterix alstromeriana and 2 Common Quakers. (Phil M)

Saturday 17th March 2007 East Blean

Night of 16/3/2007 1 3/4 hours mothing at East Blean in disappointingly cool conditions - the expected cloud breaking produced:  1 March Moth, 8 Brindled Pug, 1 Early Thorn, 20 Oak Beauty, 1 Small Brindled Beauty, 2 Engrailed, 6 Red Chestnut, 45 Small Quaker, 10 Common Quaker, 3 Clouded Drab, 6 Chestnut, 15 Diurnea fagella and 3 Tortricodes alternella. Saturday 17th March 2007 Pegwell & Kingsgate Traps

Night of 16/3/2007 Whilst in dullsville, Pegwell had 1 Shoulder-stripe, 1 Dark Sword-grass, 2 Common Quaker, 1 Hebrew Character and 1 Silver Y. 4 Common Quaker, 2 Diurnea fagella and 1 Emmelina monodactyla was all that struggled into the Kingsgate trap. (F Solly)

Friday 16th March 2007 Newington Thanet

In the traps overnight were: 1 Clouded Drab, 3 Common Quaker and 1 Agonopterix alstromeriana!! A rather impressive haul if I say so myself!     (Phil M)

Thursday 15th March 2007 Kingsgate & Pegwell Traps

Night of 14/3.  Cool, clear and boring. At Kingsgate, single Diurnea fagella, Eudonia angustea, Dotted Border, Clouded Drab, Hebrew Character and Early Grey with 4 Common Quakers whilst at Pegwell just 1 Common Quaker at Pegwell. (F Solly)

Night of the 14th March to 125MV light 1 Common Quaker, 1 Hebrew Character, 2 Emmelina monodactyla and 2 Light Brown Apple Moths and 1 Pale Brindled Beauty (Gadget)

Tuesday 13th March 2007 Leaf Miners

Another couple of leaf miners emerged from mines collected in the autumn, Phyllonorycter platanoidella from Norway Maple at East Blean and Phyllonorycter acerifoliella from Field Maple at Nethercourt, Ramsgate.   (F Solly)

Monday 12th March 2007 Westgate Thanet

Just the one moth again (good place, Westgate), a Pale Mottled Willow, I think? (Tim Hodge)

Monday 12th March 2007 Newington Ramsgate

Only 1 macro moth in the traps overnight - it was quite cool out there I suppose?? Oh yeah - the moth was a Herald. (Phil M)

Saturday 10th March 2007 Newington Thanet

An extremely early Hummingbird Hawk-moth flew in and out of the garden on a couple of occasions at 17.30 this evening. It appeared to be looking for somewhere to land and might have rested on my next-door neighbours back wall? No moths at the lights overnight I did catch an extremely small Common Quaker on the previous night. (Phil M)

My first moth of the year and the first moth in my new Robinson moth trap, and not a bad one too, a Pale Pinion. (Tim Hodge)

Friday 9th March 2007 Pegwell Trap

Night of 8/3. The Pegwell trap was awash with mediocrity. 1 Dotted Border, 1 Pale Brindled Beauty, 1 Early Moth, 1 Twin-spotted Quaker, 2 Common Quaker, 4 Hebrew Character, 1 Clouded Drab, 1 Early Grey, 1 Agonopterix heracliana, 1 Diurnea fagella and 1 Scrobipalba costella.   (F Solly)

Wednesday 7th March 2007 Newington Thanet

4 moths in the traps overnight (5 including a Light Brown Apple Moth) - 1 Eudonia angustea, 2 Common Quaker and a Satellite. The Satellite was only my second ever back garden record. (Phil M)

Tuesday the 6th March 2007 Dumpton Garden

Night of the 4th March 2007 to 125MV light 1 Pale Brindled Beauty and 1 Light Brown Apple Moth. (Gadget)

Friday 2nd March 2007 Dumpton Thanet

To 125MV light 0n the 1st March 2007 just the one Dark Chestnut. (Gadget)

Friday 2nd March 2007 Pegwell Trap

Night of 1/3.  3 Hebrew Characters and 1 Common Quaker blasted the month off at Pegwell. Together with an early Eudonia angustea flying to the kitchen window - what a night! (F Solly)
