Friday 30th June 2006 Kingsgate & Pegwell
Traps
Night of 29/6/2006 Despite the warm day, an easterly
breeze and clear night meant that the temperature dropped rapidly leading
to a cool night. Kingsgate was very poor both species and numbers. Pegwell
faired better but still disappointing numbers. The first of the few
migrants in the trap was surprisingly a Scar Bank Gem (first for
Kent), the only other migrants were 2 Bordered Straw, single Dark
Sword-grass and Pearly Underwing and about 10 Silver Y.

Tuesday 27th June 2006 Monkton Nature Reserve
as well as good numbers of Six-spot Burnet Moths (adults and
caterpillars). My now very old Clearwing pheromone lures proved to still
be effective with a number of male Six-belted Clearwings attracted.
The most impressive thing noted however was the rather stunning Tortrix
moth - Commophila aeneana. Other micros included; Aethes
tesserana, Dichrorampha petiverella, Dacuminatana
and the plume Platyptilia pallidactyla. (F

25th June 2006 Pegwell & Kingsgate Traps
Night of 24/6/2006
A
lot more moths in the Pegwell Trap last night (Kingsgate didn't fare well
due to the NE breeze). Probably the best night of the year in species
terms but only residents. Highlights from a Thanet perspective were Beautiful
Golden Y (rarely taken here) and Beautiful China-mark - the
first I have taken on Thanet (F Solly)

Though a disappointing night (last night) numbers wise for moths I did get
a little bit of quality in the shape of Chilo Phragmitella, Lilac
Beauty and
Magpie Moth. Back up things included Lime Hawk Moth, Cream
Shouldered Green Pea etc. The past few nights have turned up Sharp-angled
Peacock on 22nd and Elephant Hawk Moth on 23rd.(Phil M)
