A cool and clear night, at first, resulted in three moths to the trap 2 Pale Brindled Beauty and a lone Early Moth. (Barry H)

Wednesday 30th January 2008 Beltinge

This year I am making an effort to get into the micros, as its one group that I need to get to grips with, long lists of Latin names seem likely and lots of head scratching, I fear. Last night saw a staggering 10 moths into the trap, a new one for the garden in the form of a Tortricodes alternella along with 2 Common Quakers, 2 Satellites, 2 Pale Brindled Beauty, 2 Light Brown Apple Moths and last but not least an Emmelina monodactyla. (Barry H)

Tuesday 29th January 2008 Beltinge

Again another trio in the trap, 1 Dotted Border, 1 Early Moth and another Spring Usher, Just to wrap things up the two plume moths that were trapped last week were Amblyptilia acanthadactyla. (Barry H)

Monday 28th January 2008 Newington Thanet

Three moths in or around the traps overnight,  Firstly I was rather surprised to see a Geo on the wall of the house near one of the trap which turned out to be a Spring Usher - a new moth for the garden traps and a wanderer from outside of Thanet. Another woodland type moth was in one of the traps when I checked them this morning - a Tortricodes alternella, a moth I haven't caught here for quite a few years. The other thing was a far less exotic moth - a White-shouldered House Moth. (Phil M)

Monday 28th January 2008 Beltinge

A trio of moths in the trap last night, which were, 1 Pale Brindled Beauty, 1 Spring Usher and 1 Light Brown Apple Moth. I was hoping to set up my new Robinson trap in the garden but the forecast weather for this week is not looking great, so I shall put that on hold for now. (Barry H)

Sunday 27th January 2008 Beltinge

Conditions again not ideal for moths, although a single Satellite ventured into the moth trap. (Barry H)

Saturday 26th January 2008 Beltinge

The last couple of nights have not seen good mothing conditions but a single Chestnut last night and, in a blanket search of the small lawn near the trap I found a freshly flattened Silver Y, which I have to assume arrived a couple of nights ago only to meet a most unfortunate demise. (Barry H)

Thursday 24th January 2008 East Blean

Night of 23/1. Mid evening madness, by the time I came to my senses I was out at a breezy East Blean for an hour of moffing misery. The highlight was going home but before then there were 4 March Moths, 1 Dotted Border, 3 Pale Brindled Beauty, 17 Spring Usher, 3 Chestnut and 16 Tortricodes alternella. (F Solly)

Thursday 24th January 2008 Beltinge

A massive haul last night produced six moths in total, 1 Pale Brindled Beauty, 1 Chestnut, 2 Spring Ushers and 2 moths that I've seen before but I'm not sure of their name, some sort of plume moth I think? (Barry H)

Wednesday 23rd January 2008 Beltinge

The pace is really heating up now with two new species for the year, 1 Pale Brindled Beauty and an Early Moth at the trap last night. That's three species in four nights. Gripping stuff!  (Barry H)

Sunday 20th January 2008 Beltinge

The second night of trapping this year produced 2 Mottled Umbers in the trap.  (Barry H)

Friday 11th January 2007 Newington Thanet

3 moths in the traps this afternoon - a Light Brown Apple Moth, a Winter Moth and an unidentified thing - not sure as yet what it is. (Phil M)

Wednesday 2nd January 2007 Newington Thanet

A few moths still about overnight - a Winter Moth and a few Light Brown Apple Moths made it into the lights of hell!! The last moths I will be seeing for the foreseeable future looking at the weather. (Phil M)
