Moth Nights Out

Tuesday 30th January 2007 Newington Thanet

I spotted a moth fluttering around one of the traps in the back garden overnight and it turned out to be this Pearly Underwing. There were also a few Light Brown Apple Moths kicking about too. I also took singles of
Blastobasis lignea and a Diamond Back on the 19th before this latest spell of cold weather hit us. (Phil M)

Night of 12/1. Despite the blustery winds, it actually got better, with the weight of the under-whelming haul at Kingsgate almost crushing the egg trays. Singles of Winter MothSatelliteDark Chestnut, Silver Y, Diamond-back and Amblyptilia acanthadactyla with 3 Light Brown Apple Moth. (F Solly)

Friday 12th January 2007 Kingsgate Trap

Night of 11/1. Another night of great excitement at Kingsgate - it really doesn't get much better, 2 Dark Chestnuts, 1 Chestnut and 1 Light Brown Apple Moth. (F Solly)

A very warm night for January but still windy the surprise this morning was a Winter Moth in the trap only the second moth this year the other being a Light Brown Apple Moth on the 6th January. (Gadget)

Quite a bit of insect activity just after dark before the temperature dropped off. Moths included about 8 Light Brown Apple Moths, 1 Emmelina monodactyla and a Winter Moth. (Phil M)

Friday 5th January 2007 Kingsgate & Pegwell Traps

Night of 4/1. Another riveting night. In the Kingsgate trap, single Mottled Umber and Dark Chestnut, whilst at Pegwell there was 1 Angle Shades and 2 Silver Ys. (F Solly)
