Saturday 28th February 2009 Newington Thanet
Any moth
in February away from habitat (i.e. my back garden) is
usually worthy of mention though my finding of a pair of
Light-Brown Apple Moths and an apparent
Agonopterix subpropinquella overnight may force a
rethink of this general rule of thumb perhaps?? It's my
first capture of either specie in 2009 if anyone reading
this input is still awake? I'm so excited I'll have to go
and lay down for a bit. (Phil M)
Thursday 26th February 2009 East Blean Woods
Night of 25/2. Another mild and cloudy night - well it was
meant to be. I foolishly went to East Blean and within ten
minutes of arriving the cloud broke and the temperature
dropped. My woes did not end there though; a dwarf arrived
after about 1/2 an hour later. His main concern was not
being taken as a prey item by one of several Tawny Owls that
were in the vicinity and as a consequence he spent most of
the evening under a log. We did 1 1/2 hours and had the
following; 6 March Moth, 1 Oak Beauty, 8
Pale Brindled Beauty, 10 Small Brindled Beauty, 5
Spring Usher, 3 Dotted Border, 1 Small
Quaker, 1 Grey Shoulder-knot, 12 Chestnut
and c.200 Tortricodes alternella. Even with
the cloud breaking, a welcome escape from football on the
TV. (F Solly & Gadget)

Tuesday
17th February 2009 Newington Thanet
Yet
another moth in the traps overnight - a Satellite
this time. Not a moth I catch very many of - I've caught
probably less than half a dozen in total in my garden traps?

Monday
16th February 2009 Newington and Pegwell Bay
I did keep
an eye on the moth traps overnight but other than a few
midges and a fly I didn't see any moths. Just before I went
out this morning I had a quick look in the traps to find a
moth!! A real rarity of late being the first moth I've
caught since the last one I caught - anyway it was
Chestnut. Oohh!! I'm almost overwhelmed - I'm welling up
as I write this dross! At Pegwell this afternoon on a
successful dog/noisy out of control kid spotting mission, I
spotted singles of Peacock Butterfly and a Bumble
Bee. My life is now complete. (Phil M)
Sunday
15th February 2009 Beltinge

has been dug out of the garage and set up again yesterday

find the light. 2009 off and running (Barry Hunt)
Wednesday 28th January 2009 Newington Thanet
At last a
moth! I found a Dark Chestnut sitting alongside one
of the traps this morning. It's the first moth I've taken
since an Emmelina monodactyla on the 4th of January.
I'm so happy! (Phil M) (ecstatic)
