Moth Nights 2012

Thursday 22nd December 2011 Newington Ramsgate

Five whole moths were lured into the winter moth garden from the bowels of hell overnight ... yes that's right ... five! They were singles of Light Brown Apple Moth, Winter Moth, Satellite, Dark Chestnut and Silver Y. They are the first moths I've taken here since a Silver Y on the night of December 11th. (Phil M)

Tuesday 20th December 2011 Eastry

The garden moth trap confined to quarters in the shed these recent stormy and frosty nights. A single Winter Moth was resting on the outside light this morning until I potted it briefly for a photo.      (Bill Martin)

Tuesday 6th December 2011 Kingsgate & Pegwell Trap

Night of 5/12. A few stragglers on a clear and frosty night. At Kingsgate, singles of December Moth, Silver Y and LBAM whilst at Pegwell, Red-green Carpet, Chestnut and Rusty Dot.   (F Solly)

Sunday 4th December 2011 Newington Ramsgate

Two whole moths last night ... glory be! They were a Light Brown Apple Moth and another December Moth. (Phil M)

Thursday 1st December 2011 Newington Ramsgate

While I continue to catch up to three species of micro moth most nights the macro moths fell away after the night of November 21st. I did catch a nice male December Moth on the night of the 29th and there were 2 Silver Y's in the traps from last night. There were still Common Darter, Bumblebee, Hoverfly etc on the wing yesterday afternoon at Pegwell so to catch a few moths isn't too much of a shock even for here at this late time of year. (Phil M)
