Tuesday 28th April 2009 Sandwich Bay & Pegwell Bay
26/4/2009, Sunny clear and calm, unlikely to be anything
on the Thanet wastelands in such conditions so I spent the
morning at Sandwich Bay; where I also wasn't expecting
anything and wasn't disappointed. As the dew dried, the odd
micro moff flitted about in the morning sun. The Whitehouse
area produced Grapholita jungiella, Grapholita
compositella, Elachista argentella, Elachista rufocinerea,
Elachista atricomella, Esperia sulphurella and
Incurvaria masculella. Some Gorse beating at Mary
Bax predictably produced Cydia ulicetana and
of more interest a number of Grapholita internana
- if my info is still up to date, only the 2nd site
currently known in Kent for this attractive Tortrix. A late
afternoon visit to Pegwell produced an abundance of the tiny
tortrix Gynnidomorpha vectisana in the
Saltmarsh along with two larval 'nests' of Ground Lackey
and a couple of the plume Adaina microdactyla
in Stonelees along with more Grapholita jungiella

Very little in the traps overnight though I
did manage a garden tick - a nice Streamer - a fairly
common moth but it's taken me over ten years to get one here
in concrete land. Amongst a handful of normal spring moths I
did also pick up one each of Swallow Prominent and
Bright-line Brown Eye which are both new moths for 2009.

Another
poor catch was brightened up by yet another moth that Franny
won't get in his rubbishy garden this year, the moth? It
wasn't a rarity - just a Chamomile Shark but I just
enjoy rubbing his nose in it. Naff all else worth mentioning
here. (Phil M)

surprising amount of moths overnight considering that only

a shock to find 18 macros plus a few micros! I did get 2
Angle Shades which are the first one's I've taken this
year plus a Pyrausta aurata and an
Agonopterix arenella which might sound dull but
after these past few nights it's pretty awesome! (Phil M)

Friday
10th April 2009 Pegwell Bay and Newington Thanet
There was
a nice male Emperor Moth flying about on the country
park this morning. My garden traps were not exactly bulging
but at least I'm doing better than old hairy bonce around
the corner whose garden is so bad that he 'claims' he hasn't
even switched his traps on as yet? Yeah okay ... I believe
you. He's already making lame excuses knowing, as do we all
that he's in for another gigantic thumping! Anyway ... where
was I? Oh yes - my wonderful garden traps contained 1
Early Thorn, 14 Common Quaker, 6 Hebrew
Character, 1 Clouded Drab, 3 Early Grey
and 1 Dark Chestnut. Watch and learn Solly - watch
and learn. (Phil M) (Triumphant)

Thursday 9th April 2009 Pegwell Trap

Double-striped Pug, 13 Common Quaker, 1
Clouded Drab, 6 Hebrew Character and 3 Early
Grey. (Phil M)

a Blossom Underwing. The Underwing is a scarce moth
on Thanet, so if anyone wants to tick it off then give me a

7th April 2009 East Blean wood
Night of 6/4. Mild but mostly clear with a big moon. An
