Sunday 30th October 2005 Moth Traps

Night of 29/10. All traps rubbish - only 2 macros at Pegwell!

Saturday 29th October 2005 Garden / Kingsgate / Pegwell Traps

Night of 28/10 An awful night for moths at Kingsgate (3) and no macros at all in my Garden, the Pegwell trap however was surprisingly well populated. Nothing remarkable but a good selection of moths for Thanet at this time of year. 2 Mallow, 1 Common Marbled Carpet, 1 Grey Pine Carpet, 15 November Moth, 2 Feathered Thorn, 1 Convolvulus Hawk, 2 Dark Sword-grass, 2 Turnip, 1 Lesser Yellow Underwing, 2 Pearly Underwing, 1 Delicate, 1 L-Album Wainscot, 3 Blair's Shoulder-knot, 2 Green-brindled Crescent, 1 Chestnut, 1 Dark Chestnut, 1 Brick, 1 Dusky-lemon Sallow, 4 Angle Shades and 1 Silver Y. Thursday 27th October 2005 Kingsgate/Pegwell & Garden Moth Traps

Night of 26/10 Not much other than migrants in the Kingsgate and Pegwell Moth Traps last night.  At Kingsgate, 2 Gem, 1 Dark Sword-grass, 1 Pearly Underwing, 2 Delicate, 2 Silver Y, 1 Udea ferrugalis and 5 Diamond Backs. At Pegwell, 1 Gem, 1 Dark Sword-grass, 2 Pearly Underwing, 3 Delicate, 1 Scarce Bordered Straw, 1 Golden Twin-spot, 5 Udea ferrugalis and 2 Diamond Backs. No migrants in my Garden of course but there was a Figure of Eight - a scarce species on Thanet these days. (F Solly)

Friday 21st October 2005 Garden Sandwich Kent

Caught this last night Golden Twin Spot at home in my garden at Sandwich.  (Ian Hunter)

Thursday 20 October 2005 Garden Ramsgate Thanet

Night of 19/10.I caught a single Golden Twin-spot overnight. Also in the traps a few Blair's Shoulder Knot/Angle shades,2 Silver Y,1 Mallow etc. (Phil M)

Thursday 20th October 2005 All Traps

Night of 13/10. A dreadful night in all the moth traps, barely reaching double figures from 3 traps! The only thing of note was a Gem at Kingsgate

Wednesday 19th October 2005 Pegwell Trap

Night of 18/10 A scattering of migrants in the Pegwell Trap with single Golden Twin-spot, Scarce Bordered Straw, Delicate and Dark Sword-grass - nothing else of note. (F Solly)

Monday 17th October 2005 Garden Ramsgate Thanet

I found a Scarce Bordered Straw in the trap from last night. Also 1 Green-brindled Crescent, 1 Mallow etc. Not too much else of any quality of late other than a single Delicate on the night of the 14th. (Phil M)

Friday October 14th 2005 Cliffs End Garden Thanet

Friday October 14th 2005 Kingsgate – Pegwell  & Garden Traps

Night of 13/10. A stiff northerly wind wiped out the Kingsgate trap with only 4 moths. My garden faired a little better although the only moth of note was a Red-line Quaker - scarce on urban Thanet. The Pegwell trap had a degree of shelter and contained 16 species of macro moth, by far the best being 2 Delicates. (F Solly)

Thursday 13th October 2005 Garden Thanet

Night of 12/10 Another night of very few moths despite seemingly favourable conditions. The only moth of note was a Vestal in my garden. A couple of late micros - also from my garden - Scythropia crataegella (Hawthorn Moth) and the pyralid - Endotricha flammealis. (F Solly)

Thursday 13th October 2005 Ramsgate Garden Thanet

Night of 12/10 Overnight - 1 male Gem and the first Brick of the autumn. Nothing too much else of note other than a Black Rustic and a Silver Y. Other bits during the month have included: Spruce Carpet (8th), a second Clancy's Rustic (11th), Sallow (8th) and Green Brindled Crescent (11th). Still a few micro moths are turning up with Acleris Rhombana on 5th and 8th plus singles of Acleris Sparsana on the 4th and 9th. (Phil M)

Thursday 13th October 2005 Pegwell & Kingsgate Traps

Night of 11/10 Unfortunately rain from about 12.30am seems to have ruined what appeared to be a promising night with very few moths in any of the traps. A little migration with a Pearly Underwing and 2 Scarce Bordered Straws at Kingsgate and a Convolvulus Hawk and 1 Scarce Bordered Straw at Pegwell. The best of the resident species was an Orange Sallow at Pegwell. (F Solly)

Tuesday 11th October 2005  Garden, Kingsgate & Pegwell Trap

Night of 10/10, A poor night for numbers of moths in all traps, Kingsgate and my garden being awful (nothing new for my garden). Despite low numbers, a good variety of moths at Pegwell with 23 species of macros. The more interesting of the resident species were single Feathered Brindle, Pale Pinion, Sallow and Pale-Lemon Sallow. A reasonable showing of migrants - 2 Dark Sword-grass, 3 Pearly Underwing, 3 Delicate, 1 Clancy's Rustic and 4 Silver Y.  (F Solly)

Monday 10th October 2005 Pegwell Trap

Night of 9/10. A rather bland night in the traps and a further reduction in numbers - clear and damp last night. Pegwell was by far the best trap - although 'best' is not necessarily good. L-album Wainscots continue to be the commonest moth, of local interest, a Sallow and 2 Large Wainscots. Migrants were represented by a Diamond Back, 2 Silver Y and a Golden Twin-spot , (F Solly)

Saturday 8th October 2005 Kingsgate & Pegwell

Night of 8th October 2005 cooler than recent nights and a lot less moths in the traps, the only things of any note were a Dusky-Lemon Sallow at Kingsgate and another Red-Green Carpet at Pegwell. (F Solly)

Thursday 6th October 2005 Pegwell & Newington Thanet

Red Green Carpet, Clancy's Rustic singles at Pegwell on 29th September 2005 and Newington Ramsgate (photo) 3rd October, 1st and 2nd Thanet records. (F Solly)

Thursday 6th October 2005 Garden Dumpton Thanet

Night of the 4th a few bits in the trap over 50 Lesser Yellow Underwings being the most commonest specie with Marble And Garden Carpets in good numbers for the garden, The Mallow & Beaded Chestnut. (Gadget)

Wednesday 5th October 2005 Pegwell Trap & Garden Thanet

The Pegwell trap was affected by the wind to a lesser extent and moths included a Delicate, 2 Dark Sword-grass, 4 Silver Y's and of most note a Dusky Lemon Sallow. The only moth of note in my garden was a late White-spotted Pug. (F Solly)

Wednesday 5th October 2005 The Kingsgate Trap

The Kingsgate moth trap was blown out but did have a Grey Shoulder-knot a scarcity on Thanet and 3 Silver Y's - perhaps suggesting a hint of migration. (F Solly)

Wednesday 5th October 2005 Garden Ramsgate Thanet

Night of 3rd / 4th October 2005 - Ramsgate I caught my first decent moth of the autumn - a Clancy's Rustic. Nothing else of too much note of late other than a Brindled Green on the 1st of the month. I'll hang onto till Thursday it if anyone wants to tick it off. (Phil M)
