Thursday 30th June 2005 Photo Update

Wednesday, 29 June 2005 Pegwell trap

A pleasant surprise in the Pegwell trap, given that I had no other migrants was Splendid Brocade – I believe the 4th Kent record for this species, which was first recorded in the UK in 2003. (F Solly)

Wednesday 29th June 2005 Garden Elvington

Moths were back in numbers last night 53, Macro species including 2 Privet Hawk-Moth, 4 Elephant Hawk-Moth, 4 Burnished Brass, 1 Light Arches, 1 Grey Dagger, 1 Buff Arches, 1 Peach Blossom, 1 Buff Tip + 1 Sandy Carpet new to my garden.  A bonus 3 Ethmia Bipunctella in the trap . (TRP)

Monday 27th June 2005 Late news! and Photo update

The prob RDB1 (Red Data Book) Tortrix - Selania leplastriana, a day flying species, has been on the wing amongst Wild Cabbage along the cliffs at Stone Bay since 23/6/2005 - the only Thanet colony. (F Solly)

Sunday 26th June 2005 Garden Ramsgate

Very little in the traps overnight of any significance 1st Nutmeg of 2005 plus the 2nd Meal Moth of the year. Only 18 species of Macro moth. (Phil M)

Saturday 25th June 2005 Garden Ramsgate Thanet

night of 24th June 2005 Things did pick up after the heavy rain stopped early in the night. New common stuff for the year included singles of Poplar Grey and Uncertain. Other bits included 1 Lime-hawk Moth and exactly 93 Heart and Darts for the second night running. Rubbish!! (Phil M)

Friday 24th June 2005 Garden Dumpton Thanet

Burnished Brass, Green Silver Line,  trapped last night, moths have been steady the past few nights with Hawk moths being trapped most nights, let hope the hot weather stays with us for some time, (Gadget)

Wednesday 22nd June 2005 Garden Ramsgate Thanet

Ramsgate garden night of 21st June 2005

A disappointing night - lots of moths (41 macro species & lots of micro's) but nothing too exciting save for a Magpie moth (not annual in my garden) plus
firsts of common stuff including - L-Album Wainscot, Small Blood Vein, Buff Arches, Cydia Splendana, Pandemis Corylana, Blastobasis Decolorella, Phlyctaenia Coronata, Endotricha Flammealis and not a single Hawk-moth. (Phil M)

Wednesday 22nd June 2005 Garden Elvington

33 Species last night 1 Elephant Hawk Moth + 2 Green Silver Lines, first for the garden (TRP)

Wednesday 22nd June 2005 Garden Ramsgate Thanet

Nights of 19th & 20th June 2005
A garden rarity on the 19th - Rosy Wave, probably wandered up from Pegwell. Also insane numbers of Elephant Hawk-moths for my stinking garden with 3 on the 19th and 4 on the 20th!!Ten years worth in two
nights. Nothing else on the macro front better than 3 Lime-Hawk's on the 19th - though lots of interesting and so far common Tortrix's, Pyralids etc. Things are picking up at long last. (Phil M)

Tuesday 21st June 2005 Garden Elvington

Monday Night 20th a good numbers in the trap 45 macro species + 2 to ID lots of small stuff nothing outstanding Privet, Elephant and Small Elephant Hawk Moths (TRP)

Monday 20th June 2005 Garden Ramsgate Thanet

A few decent moths this past 2 nights including 2 new species for the garden Agapeta Zoegana on the night of the 18th and a Rosy Wave on the 19th. Other bits included 1 Elephant Hawk-moth and 2 Lime Hawks on the 18th plus 3 Lime Hawks and 2 Elephant Hawk moths last night. (Phil M)

Sunday 19th June 2005 Pegwell Trap & Garden Trap

A stiff onshore wind severely affected my coastal traps last night although there was a stunning Micro - Glyphipterix thrasonella in the Pegwell Trap. A Silver Barred in my Garden Trap was the most notable Macro.( F Solly)

Saturday 18th June 2005 Kingsgate Thanet

Considerably more moths following a warm night, although nothing outstanding. Most notably was the 2nd site record of Marbled White Spot, a record site count of 15 Small Elephant Hawks and a single Red-necked Footman.  (F Solly)

Saturday 18th June 2005 Garden Ramsgate Thanet

47 species of macro moth overnight plus a decent selection of micro's included 2 goodies a Pinion Streaked Snout and the rare migrant Pyralid Euchromius Ocella - both new moths for the garden. Other good moths for the garden included 4 Freyer's Pug, 2 V Pug, 1 Pale Oak Beauty, 1 Pale Tussock, 1 Privet Hawk-moth, 1 Common Lutestring, 2 Cinnabar, 2 Straw Dot, 1 Cream-bordered Green-pea, 2 Small Fan-foot etc. (Phil)

Friday 17th June 2005 Pegwell Bay

Moth traps continue to be dire, an Elephant Hawk Moth provided some colour this morning in the Pegwell Trap but little of interest. (F Solly)

Wednesday 8th June 2005 Kingsgate Thanet

Onshore wind combined with cool overnight temperatures has severely affected the Kingsgate trap, there were however 8 Shears last night - a record number for this site and a single Small Elephant Hawk - a regular species in small numbers. (F Solly)

Tuesday 7th June 2005 Kingsgate Thanet

There was also a pleasant selection of Micro moths flying in the evening sunshine. The attractive and apparently infrequently seen Chrysoesthia drurella was present in small numbers amongst Fat-hen (a plant, not a big chicken!). A good selection of Tortrix moths with; Agapeta hamana, Aethes williana, Aethes hartmanniana, Dichrorampha acuminatana, Dichrorampha petiverella, Dichrorampha plumbagana and Pseudargyrotoza conwagana. Other moths were Elachista argentella, Crambus lathoniellus and Esperia sulphurella - now that you're really bored, I did see a couple of Macros, single Yellow Shell and Green Carpet. (F Solly)

Tuesday 7th June 2005 Garden Dumpton Thanet

The 1st Eyed Hawkmoth in the garden for 2005 (Gadget)

Monday 6th June 2005 Late News

Sunday 5thJune 2005 Garden Ramsgate Thanet

Moths to light 125MV the night of the 4th June 2005 A reasonable selection of moths overnight - 27 macro species and various micros the best of which were: 1 Lime-hawk Moth, 1 Eyed-hawk Moth, 1 Small Waved Umber (my third of the year), 1 Green Carpet, 4 White Ermine, 2 Buff Ermine, 2 Muslin Moth, 1 Puss Moth, 1 Pale Tussock and 1 White Point. The only new for the year micro was Celypha Striana but I did flush a rather flashy looking Agonoptrix specie which I may be able to do from memory assuming its on the moth website? A new one for the garden at any rate. (Phil M)

Saturday 4th June 2005 Garden Dumpton Thanet

A early moth for my garden Feathered Ranunculus I do not as a rule see them until late July. (Gadget)

Thursday June 2nd 2005 Garden Ramsgate Thanet

Moths taken at light 125MV on the night of the 1st June 2005 Male Puss Moth and the 1st Lime-hawk Moth (at last!) - i generally pick up the first Lime-hawk Moth in late April. A few other commoner bits and pieces etc. (Phil M)
